Snacks With Wine
Welcome to vine to wine this is your host Linda Moran. Today is food and wine pairing day. What we refer to as table wine is usually a dry wine in order to complement rather than compete with the food being served. However, recently Chefs have come to realize more and more that the complexity of the dishes they prepare may lend themselves to all degrees of sweetness in wines. Today I am interested in snack food and wine.
Truth be known, I drink wine with snacks. I am not very discerning about it and it is important to me the combination be delicious. For example a favorite of mine is ginger snaps with Gewurtraminer. Cookies are very good with wine. I love shortbread with Riesling and crisp almond wafers. I am not big on cakey types of snacks but I do love the salty ones, like potato chips, which depending upon the flavor, are great with differing types of champagne and sparkling wine. Popcorn is another salty and versatile snack. I don’t ever have it with butter on it but I do like many different seasonings on top. This is one time when I enjoy a buttery Chardonnay though. I enjoy smoked nuts like almonds with dry sherry. I think nuts in general are very good with dessert style wines. Now, I also enjoy healthier snacks, like fresh fruit and to me a slices of peaches and Asti Spumante are a match made in heaven - Nothing like it on a hot summer’s day.
If you like peanut butter try it on a slice of granny smith apple with a chilled Rose’. You will be surprised. Wine - not just for dinner. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
