Dog Biscuit Recall & Fruit Assistance. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.
It seems we were here once before. Petsmart has announced it is recalling its "Grreat Choice" dog biscuits that contain peanut paste. Seven varieties are being voluntarily recalled by the company as a precaution after the recent salmonella outbreak across the U.S. If you purchased any recalled treat products, you should discontinue use immediately and return the pet food to any PetSmart for a complete refund or exchange.
A USDA Foreign Agricultural Service program is providing assistance to Afghani farmers learning to grow and market various crops such as grapes and oranges. Heidi Kuhn of Roots for Peace says new tree fruit rootstock will help expand opportunities for producers.
KUHN: Roots of Peace this month is importing 50k orange saplings from California. We're exporting those to the very, very hot area of Jalalabad Afghanistan. We've worked with local farmers and established 93 nurseries and over a thousand small scale commercial orchards since 2007. More than 80k trees which were planted since 2008 and another 80k ready for planting in 2009. And it's a combination of production and marketing efforts that will assure the sustainable development of these tree based industries for future generations of Afghan families.
Now here's today's Washington Grange Report.
