12/26/08 Young Farmer and Rancher, Dixon

Travel to Canyon Count and you'll find the row crop farm of Dave and Betsy Dixon. It's a family operation with Dave's parents and family affair for Dave and Betsy's three kids. BETSY "They love life on the farm. Just the freedom to roam and to see dad come and go. That's a big bonus for us. Our son Daniel has spent hours on the sugar beet digger. The kids love beet harvest especially because we all go see dad and you just can't do that in the city." DAVE "This year was I think really a historic year almost in the fact because our input costs were going up so rapidly that a quote wasn't good for more than about two weeks. We literally had to call and get fertilizer, fuel quotes the day you really need to have something applied. Now the price of wheat and some of our general commodities are falling and in general our expenses are staying high. Fuel is falling off now but you know it's been a challenging year but it's been a very rewarding and fun year." Dave and Betsy Dixon, District Four Young Farmer and Rancher family of the Year.
