12/16/08 NCBA's youth initiative

The National Cattlemen's Beef Association started the Youth Producers Council a few months ago to help develop the future leaders for the industry and the association. NCBA President Andy Groseta says the Council is something the industry needs. GROSETA "To create opportunities to develop leadership skills in our young people. After all they are the future of agriculture, they're the future of the cattle industry and they are definitely the future of the National Cattlemen's Association." Groseta says it's critical to have strong membership in NCBA but just as important is having young people ready to take over leadership roles. GROSETA "And this is targeting an age group of young people from 18 years old on up to their mid to late 30's and NCBA provides opportunities for them." Groseta says they've tailored programs for youth at the Annual Convention and Trade Show next month in Phoenix. GROSETA "Activities such as livestock judging contests for the young people. Also for adults we're going to have public speaking contests both extemporaneous and prepared. We're going to have a Beef Bowl and also team marketing contests." This is the first time the cattlemen have included programs aimed at younger people. Voice of Idaho Agriculture Bill Scott
