12/15/08 New Apple Commission President

New Apple Commission President. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. Earlier in the year Washington Apple Commission President Dave Carlson was put on administrative leave without any reason. Then the Commission brought in an interim President, Ken Severn to help the group through until a new person could be found. At a recent meeting in Yakima, the Commissions Export manager, Todd Fryhover was chosen to take the helm. FRYHOVER: There is a group of people here who are very capable. They've had very good direction in the past and the promotions are on target. The 46-year old Fryhover has spent most of his working career around the business and his international sales experience should help the commission continue their strong exports. FRYHOVER: My goal right now in the short term is we really need to show our consumers internationally that we're not just Red Delicious although Red Delicious is the thing that we grow better than anyone else in the world; we have 8-9 different varieties that we can grow just as well. And we need to get those varieties in their hands, our Gala's, our Granny's, or Golden Delicious, Fuji's, Braeburn's, Cripps Pink; show the international community that we are diversified and that we can provide all of their apple needs. Questions still remain why former President Carlson was removed from the position. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
