12/09/08 Cattlewomen seed advocacy volunteers

Washington Ag December 9, 2008 Want to be an advocate for the beef industry? The new president of the Washington Cattlewomen's Association, Teddy May Charlton, is looking for volunteers to be just that. Charlton: "With the downfall in funding we are having to cut some major programs. So to revamp our voice, Daren Williams from NCBA has developed a program to help us develop an advocacy group. So we are going to use his program. It is a six week program and we all get training over the computer. Then he comes in and works with us directly with media training, whether to address editorials from newspapers or to do such as I am right now, a radio interview, or televised broadcasting. So it should be a great empowerment for people who have a limited amount of time but still want to make a difference." Charlton says the goal is to have 30 women participate in the advocacy training, which would likely be in January and February. If you are interested she says you can call the Washington Cattlemen's Association Office or you can find her number in the Ellensburg phone book. I'm Bob Hoff.
