10/08/08 On Being President

As our nation quickly approaches Election Day the campaigns for both sides has become sullied to say the least. And I have to ask myself, with the current state of affairs that America is in right now, who in their right mind would even want the job; let alone spend millions of dollars and countless man hours towards getting the ever thankless and the currently less than stellar job being the president of the United States. Is it because of the power and fame, the big white house, the fancy jet? Probably if each candidate were truly honest, the answer would be yes to all the afore mentioned. But hopefully for the sake of all Americans the completely honest answer would also have a lot more substance to it, and would revolve around what this nation was originally built on; We The People. One can only hope that the next president of the United States will have similar principles and beliefs as that of our country's first president, George Washington; with a great love for their country, fellow man, and a desired pursuit of the public good.
