Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and today is food and wine pairing day. I love different types of ethnic foods and I think it is sad that folks automatically think of beer when it comes to most types. Today let's talk about picking wines for some of the most popular ethnic cuisines.
I have found that although beer and margaritas are good with Mexican food the more authentic the style the better chances of finding a wine well suited to it. For example pulled pork is wonderful with Rhone style reds or lighter bodied American Syrah. Fajitas and tamales are great with Sauvignon Blanc. Then spicy Thai food is out of this world with Riesling and Gewurztraminer, especially if you select one with a bit of sweetness. The hotter the food the sweeter the wine! I wasn't a big fan of light fruity styles of reds until I had them with a spicy Spanish Paella. If you are a fan of Sushi there is nothing better than a glass or two of Champagne to accompany it. The bubbles do fabulous things to the raw seafood. I don't know why but it just works very well. It is a match made in heaven! So there you have it every once in awhile stop thinking beer and try some wine with your favorite ethnic foods. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
