07/29/08 Selling an Icon

They bring a tear to your eye when they perform; they are as American as Apple pie and it is a sad state of affairs when an icon is sold to the highest bidder. I'm Jeff Keane stay tuned and learn why I am frustrated after this quick break. We have proceeded this year to hand over a good measure of our US cattle industry to a Brazilian Conglomerate and now the Budweiser Clydesdales will be owned by foreigners, I just don't like this Susan? Jeff, the Budweiser Clydesdales, have been a fixture at our rodeos, our parades and of course the Super Bowl, but we can't call them ours any longer, having been peddled for $70 dollars a share to a Belgium company. One of my favorite Super Bowl commercials was when Hank the young Clydesdale wants to pull the Bud wagon, eager to become one of the famed older horses? Remember, the little guy succeeds but has a bit of help from his friends&. And&. I always needed a Kleenex. So much for caring about the little guy, The slogan "This Bud's for you" sounds pretty hollow right now. Susan, Our country is selling her soul and we will pay the cost. Those team of horses have defined the American Spirit starting back in 1933 when the Busch family first used the team to celebrate the repeal of Prohibition. August A. Busch Jr. wanted to commemorate the special day. The team thundered down the street carrying the first case of post-Prohibition beer from the St. Louis brewery. 68 years latter those magnificent horses bowed to the New York City skyline post-911. I'm Jeff Keane.
