07/11/08 Dairy care poster

Its called the 'Top 10 Considerations for Culling and Transporting Dairy Animals to a Packing or Processing Facility and it's a poster to help all dairy producers make the right decisions. Chris Galen of the National Milk Producers Federation joined Dairy Management Inc and the American Association of Bovine Practitioners in unveiling the educational poster. GALEN "This will just be evidence of the good ways to go about handling animals particularly as they leave the farm. Decisions often have to be made on a regular basis about culling animals and transporting them." Galen says the poster is printed on a barn-safe plastic sheet in English and Spanish and will serve as a helpful addition to any dairy barn. GALEN "We know that we're going to face increased scrutiny in the treatment of animals but at the end of the day what happens on the farm often impacts the condition of the animals when they reach livestock auction sales barns, meat packing facilities." The poster is being distributed by the National Milk Producers Federation through dairy cooperatives.
