Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and as many of you know my new favorite wine is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time. I simply do not waste my time drinking wine that I don't enjoy. Recently I made sausage for the very first time and of course we had to grill some up for dinner that night. There I found my new favorite wine the 2000 Domaine Santa Duc Gigondas.
Gigondas is a red and rose wine appellation in the southern Rhone of France. For the red wines, the Grenache grape must be a maximum of 80% of the blend with Syrah and/or Mourvedre making up the balance. This particular Gigondas is a red wine from Domaine Santa Duc and was brought to the United States by Robert Kacher Selections. The wine hhas a sort of dark garnet color with a fragrant blackberry and black cherry nose. These follow through emphatically on the palate, and along with a medium full bodied mouthfeel the softer tannins and good acidity made the slightly dusty plum character very inviting. While I think it will continue to improve in the cellar this Gigondas was fabulous with my homemade sausage.
