The newly formed Idaho Junior Show Pig Association is offering the youth of the state a chance to be a state champion later this summer. Thayne Egbert says they have five shows on the circuit. The first show was held earlier this month in Gooding. The second show is set to begin at 1pm Saturday, tomorrow, at the fairgrounds in Boise. EGBERT "They go to all the different shows and they accumulate points based on how they do how the pig places and also how they do for showmanship and then at the end of the year we're going to have a banquet, an award banquet." And there will be cash awards given out and that could help some of the kids recoup expenses which starts with buying the pig. EGBERT "I sell mine for 150 dollars. Right now show feed it sells for 18 dollars a bag. From weigh until fair the average pig will go through twelve bags, twelve times 18." Another 216 dollars and it adds up from there. A third show pig event is set for 1030AM on June 28th at the fairgrounds in Filer and July shows are slated for Rupert and Blackfoot. Voice of Idaho Agriculture Bill Scott
