Apple Blossom Festival. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
Looking for some fun this week, head to Wenatchee for the 89th Apple Blossom Festival.
WATERMAN: We just finished our youth weekend so we had a big youth parade on Saturday with about 5000 kids in it and then Sunday we had our Pepsi-Cola Youth Day which again had between 4 and 5000 kids in our Memorial Park area.
Darci Waterman is the festival administrator. The festival is the second oldest in the state and will feature another major parade and pie eating contest next weekend.
WATERMAN: We'll have entertainment during the lunch and dinner hours all week long and then of course all day long on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And then we have a big carnival which is down at Riverfront Park and tonight through Thursday is pay one price night.
While all the festivities have been going on for years Waterman says the festival is about paying tribute.
WATERMAN: The main reason why it was started was to celebrate the apple industry but it's also a huge opportunity for us to celebrate our community. We're very lucky to live in Wenatchee and this spring is most everyone's favorite season with the blossoms so it's just a real great community celebration in conjunction with celebrating the apple industry.
