04/17/08 Nursery MPCI deadline

May first is the final date to renew current policies on the 2009 Nursery Multi-Peril Crop Insurance for Idaho, Oregon and Washington. That insurance provides protection for wholesale nursery producing and marketing nursery plants grown in containers or in the field. Risk Management Agency's Jo Lynn Seufer says the insurance program has grown dramatically since 2006 policy enhancements were made. SEUFER "Back in 2005 we had about 384 million dollars in liability coverage throughout Idaho, Oregon and Washington. And to date 2008, we have generated over 500 million dollars of participation. So the interest continues to grow." Again, May first is the final date for renewing the nursery insurance coverage. SEUFER-"This May one date is really only for producers who have current policies. Producers not having a current policy have any time throughout the year to go and obtain that coverage. That's one nice leeway for nursery growers." May first is also the final date for Oregon producers to obtain the Pilot Nursery Growers Price Endorsement. That new program is available only in Oregon and Washington this year prior to going nationwide at some future date. Today's Idaho Ag News Bill Scott
