Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. Have you noticed that almost every grocery store sells roasted chickens? Most of them have those great big rotisseries. Every year I have to do a show about this. I've found this to be a huge convenience and it just doesn't feel like I'm cheating by bringing home carry out again. Today we'll talk about selecting a wine for your rotisserie roasted chicken. The convenience of the grocery store roasted chicken has not escaped me and I have to admit that if you get them fresh they are quite good. So let's focus on what wine to pick up while you're there. Now my grocery store has several different flavors of roasted chicken. One that I really like is the herb and lemon pepper and it goes great with both red and white wines as long as the white isn't to dry and the red is not to tannic. If I select a white wine I will even grab a lemon to squeeze over the chicken to help the lemon really show off. If you get the chicken with the smoky style of barbecue on it then grab a Zinfandel. If you like the sweeter barbecue kind; then get a Dry Rose or a Cabernet Franc. Every once in awhile my store has a rosemary garlic chicken and it's very good with big reds and oaky Chardonnay. If you just get the plain chicken there are some great white burgundies that will suit it just fine. Because you're opting for convenience you'll have time to sit down and relax with oh so moist roasted chicken and the perfect bottle of wine to go with it!
