03/07/08 Trying to boost the local economy

In Adams County the locals have formed a community improvement association to help bring more commerce to the area. This winter the association took advantage of the weather and a lot of snow by kicking off the inaugural Snowmobile Rally. POFF "We're trying to being good events to Adams County and that includes New Meadows and Council. Hope to grow upon it and make it a two day event next year." Mike Poff says if you're going to have a rodeo in the winter with snowmobiles, you need to have some rodeo type events. POFF "First though I would like to see is how people are going to barrel race on a sled and so it just evolved from there." For Council snowmobile shop owner Lamont Crough the rally helps to get the word out about Adams County. CROUGH "Something like this just really helps out in that field because people get to see that we're around." And that was the start of the rally's big attraction, the one that drew the most entrants, drag racing; men and their toys going side by side at speeds of up to 85 miles per hour. With Mother Nature's help organizers say they plan for to repeat the successful rally next year and grow from there. Voice of Idaho Agriculture Bill Scott
