Welcome to vine to wine this is your host Linda Moran. A wine writer or critic has the opportunity to taste a good many wines and that is a very good reason to follow a them. If a wine critic describes your favorite wine thin and lacking in any real character you may think you have no palate. Well stop it and don't take it to heart. In the same vain understand that there is a wine out there for everyone. A wine writer's evaluation of a wine is based upon their opinion and the luxury of being able to taste and compare many wines. If you want to rely on an informed source, then I suggest you try out the recommendations of a few different writers until you find one you agree with most of the time. Perhaps you can begin by reading the description of the wine and see if it sounds like a wine you could appreciate. If it doesn't, and the critic didn't like it either, then maybe you have something to go on. The only way to get to know the writers tastes will be to try some of the recommended wines. If you enjoy it for yourself you may have found a writer and a publication to follow. If you follow a publication that scores wines - I would highly recommend that you continue down the list of wines that are below 90 points. There are some great wines in the 80's as well. So don't feel the least bit insulted when a wine writer doesn't agree with your tastes - just keep your wine glass available and go searching for someone that you can follow for the right reason - because you like most of their recommendations. How does one know which wine is best? it's the wine that you enjoy the most. Believe in yourself and thanks for listening to today's Vine to Wine.
