02/05/08 Young Farmers and Ranchers

The average age of today's American farmer is somewhere in the mid-50's and that's why the industry needs younger ag producers. OLDER FARMER "We gotta keep them here. The farmers are getting older and older and I don't know what's going to happen." The Farm Bureau needs younger members, they need Farm Bureau. The Young Farmers and Ranchers committee of Farm Bureau is an excellent opportunity for farmers ages 18 to 35 to participate in that organization's programs. Those young men and women who are active in YFR say they've experienced personal growth and a lot more. YFR MEMBERS "When you talk about growing agriculture I don't think necessarily about growing more cows or growing more hay or anything like that but raising the next generation that learns how to work and wants to be a part of agriculture also." "I'm amazed at what Farm Bureau does in the legislation and everything that they know and I was never aware of that until Young Farmers and Ranchers." "We find out stuff though Farm Bureau all the time that otherwise I wouldn't have known." "Its very helpful to have people there that are watching for us." "I seems like your kids are more than welcome. They focus on that and I think that's great." The Idaho Farm Bureau's Young Farmers and Ranchers, growing Idaho's future.
