Dairy Calcium May Help Defend Against Breast Cancer
What's changed? When I was in high school or college for that matter, I can't remember any of my friends' mothers being diagnosed with breast cancer. Today it is rare that I meet someone whose family hasn't been touched by it. Can anything be done to beat the odds? New research from France is interesting, promising and even easy. After reviewing diet records of more than 3,600 women to determine total dairy and calcium intake, the results of the French SU.VI.MAX study showed that higher total dairy intake was associated with a reduced risk of breast cancer in ALL participants, even more so in premenopausal women. The authors stated that their findings compliment another new study that also discovered a reduced risk of breast cancer with increased dairy consumption among premenopausal women. It is a given that calcium is vital for the health of young girls, apparently it's benefits continue well after the teen years. From someone who loves cheese, and good ice cream this beats the heck out of the other dietary recommendations we've been told help to reduce the risk of breast cancer.
