Finally Out & Supporting SAFE
Finally Out & Supporting SAFE. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report. It has definitely been a bad year for wildfires this year in the northwest. The recent rains along the coast have finally extinguished one of the last large fires, the Paradise fire. That fire burned more than 4 square miles of rainforest in the Olympic National Park. It was also the largest fire the park ever had. That fire had been burning since May.
Terror attacks in Paris have once again ignited conversations in the national capital over how to deal with Syrian refugees. Washington Congressman Dan Newhouse last week voted in favor of the H.R. 4038, the American Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act of 2015.
NEWHOUSE: It will require the FBI, the National Counter-Terrorism Center, Department of Homeland Security who have all raised concerns about their ability to vet refugees from Iraq and Syria. Those concerns coupled with the recent terrorist attacks and threats - and I might add the threats that are coming in daily to our own homeland that really underscore what our responsibility is to secure the safety of American people. So I supported this legislation to really push pause on the resettlement of refugees to make sure our vetting process is as stringent as it can be. That there is no threat posed to Americans by these refugees.
That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
