Stronger El Niño & Potato Donation. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report.

It's almost too much to hope for. A new report from the National Weather Service suggests that the current El Niño is getting stronger which may lead to more rain for the western part of the U.S., predominately California in the next week. That in turn has some people in Southern California concerned about too much rain which could cause mudslides. Meteorologist Brad Rippey.

RIPPEY: We are thinking on the order of 1 to 3 inch totals in some of the favored mountain areas, even some of the coastal areas could pickup significant rainfall.

At preset the weather models do not show the El Niño as having much affect on the Pacific Northwest.

As part of its commitment to local communities and food security, Bayer CropScience will donate approximately 60 tons of potatoes to two hunger relief organizations in Pasco, Wash., Second Harvest and Society of St. Andrew or SoSA. Second Harvest will distribute potatoes throughout the area it serves along with other fresh produce generously donated by local farmers. The Society of St. Andrew, based out of Big Island, Va., will utilize a network of local organizations to distribute the potatoes.

Bayer CropScience grew the potatoes on nearly two acres in Washington for demonstration purposes.
