The Idaho State Department of Agriculture has kicked off a campaign to encourage livestock owners to be part of the premises identification program. Locate in 48 will allow 48 hour trace back if an animal disease outbreak were to occur and that's something Governor Butch Otter supports and has already enrolled in.
OTTER "I would encourage everybody to fill out that application and register the premises that basically says you're part of saving our market our heritage and this kind of industry for the next generation."
Bill Barton is chief of the ISDA Animal Health Division who says premises identification is critical so that a problem can be isolated and that neighboring livestock owners can be notified quickly about such events.
BARTON "The information that you provide with your premises identification form is strictly confidential and it is actually protected by Idaho state law. This information will only be accessed by animal health and public health should there be an animal health event in the state of Idaho."
ISDA as part of the campaign has created a website, Idaho.LocateIn48.com which has all the info and forms to livestock owners.
