11/26/07 PNW Grains Conference this week

Farm and Ranch November 26, 2007 The Oregon Wheat Growers League, Washington Association of Wheat Growers, and Idaho Grain Producers Association, along with wheat and barley producers from throughout the Pacific Northwest will converge upon the Doubletree City Center Hotel in Spokane for this year's Pacific Northwest Grains Conference from November 28th through the 30th. Tammy Dennee of the Oregon Wheat Growers League says the convention kicks off Wednesday at noon. Dennee: "And Mike Kruger, the president of Money Farm Inc. will make a presentation entitled "Mega Trends in Commodities and Energy." That will be the kickoff luncheon at noon on the 28th at the Doubletree." Back for another keynote address is the popular ag economist Dr. Barry Flinchbaugh of Kansas who will speak Thursday morning at 8:45. Dennee: "He is going to provide his perception on where we are at this time on the Senate and House versions of the farm bill and where he believes, given his connections within the congressional body and his past experiences on a number of farm bills, where he thinks this farm bill is going to end up for 2007." The convention will also have numerous workshop sessions on topics such as biotech wheat, soil fertility in direct seed, wheat and barley research, the conservation and energy titles of a new farm bill and leadership training. The three PNW organizations will also hold their individual annual meetings to adopt policy and elect officers.
