11/16/07 PETA and Rodeo II

Yesterday I was telling you how claims of rodeo stock abuse by groups like PETA and actual treatment of the stock is so different. I'm Jeff Keane; today I'll give you more information and tell you just how much respect these animals are given. PETA would like people to believe many rodeo stock animals are injured. Well, out of over 85,000 animals at 67 PRCA rodeos during the 2001 season only 25 were injured. The PRCA is also particular about touching animals with a cattle prod anywhere but the hip or shoulder area. Used, to move cattle through the chutes, prods deliver 5,000-6,000 volts of electricity, with no amperage to a 2,000-pound bull. In comparison, taser guns used by police officers on humans carry 11,000-50,000 volts of electricity. A stock contractor appreciates his rodeo stock and so do the fans. When the superstar Bodacious was retired and inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1995, 17,000 fans gave this great bull a standing ovation. Bodacious retired to green pastures and the "difficult" job of reproducing more bulls with his talents. One stock owner rode for miles to get materials to build a cross at the spot his favorite bucking horse died. Cowboys care &. rodeo legend Ty Murry has established a retirement home on his ranch for bucking horses and when they eventually pass to the greener pastures, Ty honors them with markers commemorating their contribution to the great sport of rodeo. I'm Jeff Keane.
