Farm and Ranch July 5, 2007 U.S. House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson is scheduled to publicly release the details of his chairman's mark for the 2007 Farm Bill tomorrow. Actually when the full Agriculture Committee begins the mark up process July 17th, Peterson says there will be two bills, one that meets pay go rules and the other with extra authorizations in the event the Committee can find offsets for the farm bill reserve fund.
Peterson: "The first item on the Committee mark up will be the bill that meets the pay go requirements. That bill will be marked up. Obviously there may be changes in what I put forward but hopefully we have a very close read of the committee. That bill will be sent to the floor and meet pay go rules and we will deal with whatever the situation is on the floor at that time."
Peterson says the second bill, which utilizes reserve funds, will also likely be adopted by the Committee but then tabled.
Peterson: "If offsets are found before the time the bill goes to the floor we would bring those into the bill on the floor through the manager's amendment process."
And Peterson says that second bill with reserve funds would be available all the way through the conference committee process.
