Horses as a money saving alternative? I'm Jeff Keane and I'll return with more on this seemingly impossible statement. For most of us, horse ownership is a money consuming adventure but the New York and other police departments are finding once again that horses may be an economical solution, here's Becky to explain.
While horse ownership is thought to be a costly journey many police departments across the US are crunching the numbers on re-enlisting horses into there teams of crime fighters. The cost of caring for the horses, in New York City is just under ten dollars per day. Plus in our growing state of think green the horses emissions are much easier on the environment than their gas powered competition.
Becky I think that would depend on which end your dealing with.
Well, at least their waste is recyclable. These hay burners have already been put into action and are proving to be effective in crime reduction and crowd control, paying homage to horse forces who beat the streets before them. With their early success many departments are already looking to expand their horse fleets but finding animals suited for police work can be difficult, as they must execute tasks most horses with any sense would object to.
That's right Becky, I've talked with people involved with using horses as members of the police force team and they tell me it does take a strong, quiet, fearless, horse to fill the bill. I'm Jeff Keane.
