06/01/07 Learning About Wine

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. If you're becoming more interested in wine, I'd recommend reading about it as well as taking classes and tasting it. When you understand more about what you're looking for in your glass of wine you will naturally broaden your personal preferences. The topic of wine is vast and the number of places to find information about wine is astounding. To begin with, you need to narrow it down to what interests you and what you think would be the most interesting way to learn about it. Perhaps a good start is to read about a wine that you have enjoyed. Try doing an internet search to find the wine and then follow your own questions from there. For example  you really like Syrah. Go to the internet and see if you can find out about some of the Syrah that you tasted in the past. Hopefully this would lead you to ask - Where did Syrah originally come from? Is it made differently in different parts of the world? Things like that. Also, even if you don't consider yourself a beginner, find a good book that's written for beginning wine tasters. I think it will surprise you just how much you learn or - just how much you only thought you knew. Taking a wine course at a local college or community center allows you to taste wine with a knowledgable individual to help guide you and answer questions. The best thing about all this is the wine you're drinking will actually become more interesting to you - and you will develop a more discerning palate. So take just a little time to study up and the world of wine will become that much more appealing, I promise. And thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
