05/01/07 Dixie Beach

Behind every good man is a great woman, I'm Jeff Keane and I'll return in a minute to explain why the foundation of the American Quarter horse holds true to the same theory. While the stallions are often recognized for influencing bloodlines without the right mare the genetic puzzle could never materialize into productive offspring. Here's Becky with more on a mare who's DNA is still impacting the breed. Jeff as you mentioned mares are often left behind the scenes to do the hard work but a certain mare by the name of Dixie Beach is hard to ignore. Along with her sister Lady Coolidge there are not many noteworthy horses today that one or both of these mares can't be traced back to. The Dam of only fourteen registered foals Dixie Beach packed her progeny with athletic cow sensibility, and great frames winning them countless awards in the National Cutting and Reining Horse Associations and the American Quarter Horse World Championships. Becky it seems clear this mare helped piece together the ground floor of American Quarter Horse. Yeah, this 1930 mare helped provide the foundation of her breeds' future. With offspring including the names Short Spark an AQHA Superior Reining Champion, and the noteworthy Bueno Chex and Fritz Command, both extra ordinary sires and extremely influential AQHA Champions. Thanks Becky, now I know where the Fritz Command horses I remember in a former local quarter horse herd came from. I'm Jeff Keane.
