12/07/06 Adams Conservation District award wiinner

Washington Ag December 7, 2006 The Adams County Conservation District received an Environmental Excellence Award from the Washington Department of Ecology during the recent annual meeting of the Washington Association of Conservation Districts. The award recognized the work the Adams County district has done along Cow Creek and the Lower Palouse River to fence livestock out of riparian areas and provide off-stream water. Eric Meier of Ritzville, an Adams County Conservation District Supervisor accepted the award. Meier: "Well I'm really proud to have the district recognized for some of the work they have done. They have worked hard at this. We have a really good district manager named Gary Devore that has done a lot of the grant process for us and worked through a lot of hard times. We're almost completely funded by the grant process in the Adams County Conservation District and its great to be recognized for something like that." Grant Pfiefer of Ecology who handed out the award talks about the significance of the work the conservation district and individual farmers and ranchers are doing. Pfiefer: "When I had the opportunity to talk to a key staff member in our office who works in these areas I said well how big an improvement are these kind of activities making. His face just lit up like a bright light and he said it is making a big difference." I'm Bob Hoff.
