11/17/06 New Favorite

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and as many of you know my new favorite wine is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time. I simply do not waste my time drinking wine that I do not like. Now that Fall is firmly entrenched we have gone back to drinking red wine almost exclusively. And I have found a few wines that are good and reasonably priced for everyday drinking. Yes, that would make them eligible candidates for my new favorite wine. Now that I am back to savoring red wines on a regular basis I remember that most good red wine costs more than an equally good white wine. But I do have a few recommendations for wines that are reasonably priced and good. First of all, understand that I am from Washington state, and as much as I try to maintain an open mind and palate, I probably do have a bit of a bias. I think a winery that makes excellent and consistent reds for the price is hands down Columbia Crest. Next I cannot help but continue to say that although it is a bit higher priced Nelms Road the second label from Woodward Canyon is excellent. Gordon Brothers wine also fall into the delicious and affordable category. I have found that Beringer and BV from California are still making very good reds that are quite affordable. La Crema and Buena Vista Pinot Noir are still affordable and still consistently good drinking wines. The number of Spanish and Italian wines that are good to very good are the topic for another program but in the meantime - Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
