During the 2026 American Sheep Industry (ASI) Convention in Reno, Nevada, attendees heard from Dr. Paul Swan, a global wool textile thought leader with over 25 years of experience in research, strategy development, operational management, and consulting across the wool industry in Australia and internationally.

He specifically talked about the International Wool Textile Organization (IWTO) and it's Green Book. A comprehensive, scientific resource slated for launch in 2026, designed to establish the verified environmental credentials and sustainability of wool. It focuses on biogenic carbon accounting to challenge misleading narratives and provide accurate data for brands and consumers, showcasing how natural sheep carbon cycles can reduce wool's carbon footprint by up to 75%.

ASI is participating in the Green Book and has been the member of IWTO representing the U.S. since the 1990’s.

The Green Book is central to the International Wool Textile Organization's efforts to ensure that the sustainability of natural fibers is accurately represented in the market.
