USDA Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke Rollins, has announced a phased reorganization plan to transfer most of the Washington area-based staff to five locations around the country and close a number of key USA offices and buildings in the capital region. In a video message to employees, rolling says that staff will relocate to five regional hubs in Raleigh, North Carolina, Kansas City, Missouri, Indianapolis, Indiana, Fort Collins, Colorado; and Salt Lake City, Utah.

“President Trump promised to realign federal spending, eliminate duplication and redundancy and ensure all agencies are efficiently and effectively delivering services to our constituents. Of course, here at USDA, the farmer, the rancher, the forester, and the American taxpayer, we are doing just that by moving our key offices services outside Washington DC, to ensure that USDA is located closer to the people we serve, while also providing a more affordable cost of living for our employees and their families. I want to be clear here that this is an announcement of a reorganization, not a large-scale workforce reduction.”

The agency said that all critical functions of the USDA would continue uninterrupted. They expect to keep a maximum of 2000 employees in Washington.
