SFF Immigration Raids Pt 2
From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. Will immigration enforcement raids continue on farms or not? That’s the question many farm workers are asking as fears keep them on edge.Save Family Farming Executive Director, Ben Tindall says the constantly changing news makes it difficult for producers in our state …
TINDALL … “We’ve also heard from one individual who started hearing that people are posting on social media things like, you know, do not drive to Washington because ICE is doing checkpoints. Whether that’s true or not is almost beside the point.”
So, Tindall asks, what can be done? …
TINDALL … “How can farmers address this? From a farmer’s standpoint, really, they can’t. It’s outside of their control. This is something that is happening on the federal level, it’s happening from the immigration level and farmers are the ones that are struggling with this.”
And, Tindall says it’s not getting any better …
TINDALL … “So far owners, operators and the farm workers are all the ones that are being the victims and being made the victims in this situation that’s really out of their control. And that is something that, like we said earlier, Congress needs to step up and address this head-on.”
Tindall says we can’t keep kicking this can down the road …
TINDALL … “It needs to be addressed now and that really is what Save Family Farming is trying to communicate and call. We need decisive action and leadership, not platitudes, not lip service, we need solutions.”
That’s Ben Tindall, Executive Director at Save Family Farming.
