Incentives For Lowering Carbon Intensity in Crops

The biofuel industry is about to get a big incentive to reduce their carbon footprint. Once the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit goes into effect, there will be money to be made in source raw commodities with low carbon intensity scores. Continuum Ag founder Mitchell Hora says he’s trying to help farmers prepare to take advantage of this incentive.
Hora… “ Carbon intensity has really been driven by the energy sector. And for agriculture, we're talking biofuels, right? So think ethanol, biodiesel, renewable diesel, sustainable aviation fuel. And part of the carbon intensity of those fuels is the crops or the feedstock that's utilized to produce the fuel. Our focus is in helping to calculate the CI of the feedstock. And that's really where we're trying to help farmers be proactive to get their data put together, help to avoid fraud, help to make sure that this can be a legitimate and scalable opportunity. There's obviously a lot of backlash already when it comes to agriculture and when it comes to biofuels. So we know we need to be aggressive with very complete, rigorous audited data, and that's what we're helping to make sure that farmers are ready for that.”
