Congrats to President-Elect
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. The American Farm Bureau and other major farm groups congratulated President-elect Trump, vowing to work with him and Congressional leaders to advance top Ag priorities, including a new farm bill.AFB President Zippy Duvall says it’s time to “put politics
aside” and finish a new five-year farm bill …
DUVALL … “We’ve been pushing hard to get a farm bill done. Our farmers need it. We kicked the can down the road too long. And, if you look back over the last five years of this farm bill, we lost 141-thousand farms. So, we know that we need a new, modernized farm bill.”
Duvall also expects President-elect Trump to help prevent impending tax hikes next year before his 2017 cuts expire.
On the flip side, Duvall’s concerned about Trump’s vow to impose stiff import tariffs that sparked trade wars the last time …
DUVALL … “When tariffs are put on other countries, a lot of times, agriculture communities carry the brunt of the retaliation of what comes with those tariffs. It will restrict the markets and lower prices, and that’s bad for farmers and ranchers.”
The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s Ethan Lane says after working with Trump’s first administration, NCBA expects the President-elect to try to reduce the burden on business …
LANE … “That means lowering taxes. That means lowering some of the regulatory red tape that makes it hard for businesses to operate. It means continuing to build his legacy in the court system, where we’ve already seen a tremendously improved landscape on issues like WOTUS.”
The National Farmers Union also joined in congratulating President-elect Trump.
