Fresh Pear Committee Manager Pt 2
From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. The Pear Bureau’s International Marketing Director, Jeff Correa has been named Manager of the Fresh Pear Committee.Correa says the Fresh Pear Committee and the Pear Bureau have worked together for years …
CORREA … “The Fresh Pear Committee is what collects the assessments, has the handing the regulations out to the industry. Then through that funding received, the Pear Bureau is hired by the Fresh Pear Committee to do the marketing and promotions.”
The previous Manager, Correa says was former Pear Bureau President/CEO Kevin Moffitt …
CORREA … “Previously, those positions were held both by the President and CEO of the Pear Bureau as well as the manager role of the Fresh Pear Committee. The industry decided to separate those roles and give me the opportunity to serve the industry in two capacities, in this role as well as my International Marketing Director role.”
And the Pacific Northwest, Correa says is where it’s at for the pear industry …
CORREA … “The Fresh Pear Committee represents the growers in Oregon and Washington, so it’s the same industry that’s represented by the Pear Bureau. So, there’s no difference in that. California is marketed under a state marketing order which is the California Pear Advisory Board. So, they’re not part of the Fresh Pear Committee marketing order. And beyond that, other states produce pears, but it’s more backyard production, nothing that falls under the Fresh Pear Committee.”
Correa says this is a tremendous opportunity to continue the excellent work of the longest standing federal marketing order.
