From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. We recently introduced you to the new Pear Bureau Northwest President and CEO CarrieAnn Arias, but that wasn’t the only change at the Pear Bureau.

International Marketing Director, Jeff Correa will be taking on extra duty as the Manager of the Fresh Pear Committee, a role previously held by retiring President Kevin Moffitt …

CORREA … “I was appointed, starting in July, to take on this new role for the industry as the manager of the Fresh Pear Committee. This Fresh Pear Committee is the oldest active Federal Marketing Order under the USDA. So, it oversees both fresh pears and processed pears and I’ll be managing the Fresh Pear side of that marketing order.”

So, you may be wondering, what is the Fresh Pear Committee? …

CORREA … “The Fresh Pear Committee, it is to administrate the order that has all of the handling regulations the industry needs to abide by during each season, sets the assessment rates that then those funds get passed along to do the promotion and advertising conducted through the Pear Bureau Northwest as well as the industry research.”

And, Correa says periodically get grower feedback …

CORREA … “Every six years, the marketing order needs to conduct a grower referendum. The next one we have due is out in 2029. And then every five years we conduct an economic study of the promotion and advertising conducted by the Pear Bureau.”

Tune in tomorrow for more … on the new manager of the Fresh Pear Committee.
