US farmers are on track to once again be the world's number one source of corn. Last year, Brazil surpassed the United States in total corn exports. Joan Collusi, from the University of Illinois says this is because the Chinese government opened its market to the South American nation.

“Brazilian corn exports are projected to fall because of weaker demand from China this year and also higher competition with United States and Argentina after a very poor 2023 harvest under a third consecutive La Nina. Maybe you remember that Argentina farmers have seen better results in the current crop season. “

All this combined and weaker demand from China has increased competition from the United States and Argentina and that has set farmers in the US on the path to regaining the number one corn exporting nation title.

And staying on the topic of corn, USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippy says that overall, US corn is looking good this year. However, there are some exceptions. Obviously,

too late for that southeastern corn, North Carolina coming in 63% very poor to poor. We have some smaller issues as you move to the Great Plains, where we've seen some heat and some dryness there.

And Iowa, the number one corn-producing state, is reporting corn at 77% good to excellent.
