Farm and Ranch August 21, 2006 The end of August marks the first deadline for crop insurance on some fall planted crops for 2007. Dave Paul of the USDA's regional office of the Risk Management Agency says August 31st is the sales closing date for 2007 fall planted canola and rapeseed for counties with fall and spring types. August 31st is also the final date to obtain 2007 fall planted onion coverage for Umatilla and Walla Walla counties.
Paul says the sales closing date for winter and spring wheat and barley with winter coverage is October 2nd this year.
Paul: "We did announce an early established price of $3.25. That would be for the standard actual production history, production based policy."
Paul says that established price could be updated around September 15th. Around September 20th RMA will announce wheat prices for the revenue policies of which the Crop Revenue Coverage is the most popular in the Pacific Northwest.
Paul: "Essentially the bulk of the acreage anymore in the Pacific Northwest is insured under one of those revenue insurance policies so most folks are patiently waiting for price we will announce this fall that will be used to establish their coverage for next year's wheat crop, in the Pacific Northwest."
As always, check with you crop insurance agent.
