Washington Ag August 17, 2006 The first sales closing date for crop insurance on some 2007 fall planted crops is coming at the end of this month. Dave Paul of USDA's regional Risk Management Agency in Spokane, explains which crops are affected.
Paul: "Is canola and rapeseed and onions, fall planted types in Umatilla and Walla Walla counties. Those sales closing dates are August 31st, again for canola and rapeseed and onion insurance in those couple of counties."
Paul says there was some flexibility added for oilseed producers.
Paul: "In counties where we have both fall and spring planted types we broke the sales closing dates out so a producer that might only plant spring canola can purchase that insurance in the spring. And if they plant both fall and spring canola they can purchase insurance in the fall. So, provided a little bit more flexibility."
After the August 31st deadline, the next major sales closing date is October 2nd. That will be for winter and spring wheat, barley with winter coverage, 2007 Mint Pilot with winter coverage and forage crop and the forage seed pilot.
