Grizzly Bear Update Pt 2
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. It won’t be long before the National Park Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will begin bringing Grizzly bears to the North Cascades, despite the wishes of the residents. As for the specific plans for moving the bears, U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse says he’s not been kept in the loop …
NEWHOUSE … “I don’t know where or when the bears will be brought in. I’ve been told sometime this summer to early fall, but the agencies have not shared their exact plans.”
Newhouse says in the meantime it’s kind of a wait and see …
NEWHOUSE … “So, I will continue to do what I can from my end in the legislative area. We've brought forward efforts to stop them through the Congressional Review Act.”
Whether or not that will help, Newhouse isn’t sure …
NEWHOUSE … “My guess is they have enough resources available to them to bring some bears in initially to carry out the plan. Further, it’s going to be difficult for them if we can stop the money that they would need to do that.”
But Newhouse says he won’t give up …
NEWHOUSE … “You know my job is to represent the people in my district and that’s what I will continue to and make sure that these agencies understand that this is not a popular idea.”
Newhouse says his efforts are for his constituents who actually live in that part of the state.
