WAEF Scholarship Applications Pt 1
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. The Washington Apple Education Foundation wants to remind students that they are currently accepting applications for their 2024 college scholarships …BARBOSA … “Yes, we currently have our applications open. You can go to our website. We have two different applications. We have our universal and we have our vocational for technical scholarships. And those are due March 1st.”
WAEF Executive Director, Dr. Faviola Barbosa says there has been some changes to the application process …
BARBOSA … “This year, a change that we’ve done, is that previously we’ve always required two letters of recommendation. Now, we only require one and an official transcript.”
But, Barbosa says when it comes to your transcripts, there is one very important thing to remember …
BARBOSA … “That is the biggest thing because some students receive their own transcript. They open it, break the seal, and open it up to see what it’s like and then they send it to us. And if that seal is broken, we cannot accept it. And so, those are two really big things that sometimes have disqualified some students. So make sure, a letter of recommendation and a sealed official transcript.”
And for first-generation college students, Barbosa says this program is great …
BARBOSA … “Yes! 78% of the students that are part of our program are first-generation students. And so, the nice thing is that we provide those student services to ensure that they are successful.”
