Incoming Sorghume Leader On Goals and Issues

It's a new role and a new face to the National Sorghum Producers. Incoming Executive Director Greg Ruehle discusses issues the sorghum industry is facing and goals to overcome them.

“There are several goals that I would have. One is to take advantage of the experience that I have in the public policy process. So legislative and regulatory fronts, both working with whatever administration is in place to address disparities that exists today, when you compare sorghum and other feed grains

when these policies are written.”

He says NSP strives to ensure sorghum and corn are on equal footing a lot of talk in the last 18 months about biofuels.

“Our job has to be to make sure that sorghum is on equal footing as a cereal grain that can be utilized to produce sustainable fuels. A second one is we're seeing acreage increases in sorghum, we're see that for a lot of reasons, certainly favorable price in many areas relative to corn, because of the strong international demand that we have for sorghum, we see that because of opportunities for participation in some of the sustainability programs. So those are two examples of areas where growing the association and then just being able to be visible on behalf of the industry in front of whatever audience that we have.”
