In September of 2022, USDA Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, announced that USDA would be investing up to $2.8 billion into 70 Climate-Smart commodities projects. The National Association of Conservation Districts was selected as one of the larger award recipients and is now charged with investing back to farmers Secretary and Treasurer, Mark masters explains.

“We were able to secure some around $80 million in funding and the vast majority of that is going to go out to our producers around the country to help incentivize the adoption of climate-smart commodities. We are particularly excited to announce that the opportunity for districts and our partners around the country to submit their concept papers to NACD over the next number of weeks NACD will provide the technical assistance reporting and boots on the groundwork to identify the climate-smart practices that would perform well on the operation.”

This funding allows flexibility for the farmer to participate in sustainability practices that they want to do or couldn't do. Because of a lack of resources.

“Grants are open as we speak. initial concept papers, as I mentioned, are due October 13. And there is all the information that your listeners might want at our NACD website- NACD.net.”
