WSTFA 2023 Golf Tournament
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. Summer is officially here and, you know, even the farmers are occasionally looking for an excuse to get out of the fields and orchards and do something fun.Well, the Washington State Tree Fruit Association is doing their part once again to help with that …
DeVANEY … “Well, you know, summer is a great time of year for growing fruit, but it is also a great time of year to be outdoors enjoying the weather recreationally. And so, we always schedule our charity golf tournament in late August as well.”
And, WSTFA President, Jon DeVaney says, for those of you looking to hit the links …
DeVANEY … “This year it’s going to be Tuesday, August 29th at Highlander Golf Course in East Wenatchee. And that’s something we’ve put on every year, not just for a social aspects, though that’s a benefit as well, but all of the net proceeds of that event go to support industry scholarships through the Washington Apple Education Foundation recognizing a lot of past industry leaders in those name scholarships and supporting a lot of students who are coming out of the tree fruit industry and are going on to do good things in higher education.”
DeVaney says, even those high-tech students …
DeVANEY … “Absolutely! You know, the “high-tech apple” is not just the one that makes your cell phone. We need folks in our tree fruit industry with those skills as well.”
