A visit with Teton Valley veterinarian Todd Tibbetts, a large animal veterinarian whose practice is primarily beef cow calf work. Speaker2: Part of the way I've built my practice is I like to ride horses and I like to rope. And so I've kind of integrated that into my practice and I'll travel out and help these guys brand calves and doctor calves. And that part I really like. I love being outside with ranchers, branding time and doctoring cattle and trying to help them figure out ways to make their business more profitable. Ranchers, in my opinion, are just salt of the earth people. They're people. They're not extravagant. They live a pretty simple lifestyle. They work hard and they earn their living. I like the seasonal change in my work in the spring. I do a lot of cabin calls. In the summer, I float horse teeth. In the fall, we trade check cows, and then the cycle kind of starts all over again. So I do see sections every year and sometimes that's at 2:00 in the morning. I remember doing a C section once it was 20 below, and by the time I got done with the surgery and we were in a barn, my tools in my bucket were all froze and the cold weather just makes it a little bit harder. There's a couple of things that make ranching hard when it gets cold. Most ranchers use equipment to feed their cows. Most types of equipment are powered by diesel and diesel. It's hard to keep equipment running when it gets down below 20 below. And so there's some hazards with working with equipment. Speaker1: Bitter cold brings on all kinds of hazards.
