The National Festival of Breads is being hosted this year by Kansas Wheat. Vice President of Communications with Kansas wheat, Marcia Boswell talks more about this national event.

"Will submit original bread recipes okay. And then we go through we have judges go through all those entries, and they choose the top ones to test bake in our test kitchen here in Manhattan and then judge those down. So there's four categories and we'll have a finalist in each of the four categories."

Once an eligible recipe and photo is submitted, Boswell says the entries will be entered into a particular category.

"Wholesome and healthy so that is one where you maybe you take a old family recipe and you you make some tweaks to it to make a little bit healthier. There's a quick and easy category so it has to be a thing under four hours including bake time, so something that fits into that time category. This year we have go nuts so incorporates nuts into your bread or the filling or something like that, and say cheese. So same incorporates cheese into the filling or the dough."

Each recipe is then baked by official test speakers and evaluated for taste, quality, appearance, artistic shaping, how well the recipe is written and nutritional value. Entries are open now through February 13. For details log on to nationalfestivalofbreads.com.
