It’s time for your Southeast Regional Ag News. On the Ag Information Network, I’m Haylie Shipp.

Today marks the start of the 2022 Florida Farm Bureau annual meeting. It’s being held in Orlando. The theme this year is “Rooted in Resilience” and, when they put that theme together sometime back, they did not realize just how fitting it was going to be for this year.

On Tuesday I talked to John Walt Boatright. He is the Director of National Affairs with Florida Farm Bureau…

“Our annual meeting is always a good chance for our producers that run the gamut across the 300 different commodities that we grow in the state of Florida. They’re able to get in a room, get together, enjoy fellowship, learn a little bit about some new updates in the industry, but also to do the business of Farm Bureau which is to make sure we have the right policies in place to best serve our members and to advocate for them.”

From the panhandle to Palm Beach, he says they’re excited to hear from producers…

“I am hopeful that we can discuss the current challenges that Hurricane Ian has dealt us ranging from citrus to dairy to our apiculture industry to so many producers that were in the path of that storm. That we can pull ourselves up by our boot straps and really get to work in figuring out how we put one foot in front of the other.

Again John Walt Boatright with the Florida Farm Bureau. “Rooted in Resilience,” their annual meeting is on through Friday.
