William Kanitz has a program where you install solar panels in a field and ultimately you grow crops, electricity and sage grouse. Kanitz knows of a farmer in Oregon that's being paid by the government to achieve these three objectives. Speaker2: He actually is in a program for the US Department of Interior and there's actually programs for wildlife and so there's actually grants out here for putting in solar that works for wildlife. You can see our website, E.T. Suning.com in. Speaker1: Just a brief word or two. You mention a farmer over in Oregon who's using solar panels in a field, and that's helping to increase sage grouse populations. Is that right? Speaker2: It does rangelands management and they're out of Baker City, Oregon. Well, he got into his providing cover so that they can expand the habitat for the grouse, which is a hunting bird, too. Speaker1: So essentially what you're saying is you take the power from the solar panels and use that power to grow crops, which then serve as cover or serve as habitat for sage grouse. Speaker2: Yes. In this particular case, he's raising pasture for grazing cattle in the springtime. And he raises sage grouse, provides habitat, which they pay for. Speaker1: Now that's a deal. et-sun.com
