Beef to Asian markets

Serving her second term on Idaho Beef Council Board, I asked Trish Dowton, where Idaho beef was being exported Speaker2: To Asian markets are really developing pretty fast. People over there really found that they like U.S. beef, the quality and there's a big demand for it and they're willing to pay for it. Speaker1: Is there any specific Asian market? Speaker2: Well, actually, Japan has traditionally been our largest export market, and in Idaho we're kind of at an advantage because the closest ports are in Washington and Oregon, you know, over in the northwest. Also, Korea is a growing market, so Japan and Korea together account for about half of all beef exports in the United States already. China is a growing market, but that's kind of dependent on trade agreements with China, and sometimes that's political and stuff. But Hong Kong has always been the third largest market. But a lot of that was product going into China when we didn't have a China trade agreement under previous administrations. And then Taiwan is another quickly growing market to over there. So they're all right up there. And there's a, you know, a lot of potential is there middle class is growing and, you know, just demanding higher quality proteins as their economy allows it.
